the mullers and packers union of australia

Here at the the mullers and packers union we appreciate the finer things in life

as much as the next fellow....

A Grange Hermitage, a cuban cigar, fine text, or a hot...whatever

can get our engines roaring...

With that in mind, it's time to roll a martini and settle into todays session

with a fine old film

of

historical significance and of interest to us all.

Happy dancing!

Yes kiddies, it's The Specials, and what a fine ska band they are too.

Then of course it's on with the show as we put our very best foot forward

in introducing for your

pleasure and entertainment, the mpua's inaugural gala poetry page.

For those of you new to the page or to poetry-take it slowly and pace yourself

mull it all over folks

Read it and ruminate.

It's all grist for the mill, as we like to say here at mpua headquarters,

we're forever milling and mulling around the joint...

I want a gun
A big black
fuckyou jack!
kinda gun

One
that's as sharp
as the
frocks I wear
and matches
my sense of humour

S11(septembereleven)

Planes fly
literally
into the heart of the USA's
world trade towers
and pentagon

It's like a video game
over & over & over
in the repetition of
Television
'till his sleepy eyes
recognised it for what it was
- tit for tat

The thrill of meeting
a bright mind
is overshadowed
by the knowledge that
its not a like mind
It's a devout and devoted
muslim mind
It's
a male mind
And I'm not sure if we can
bridge
The Great Cultural Divide
I'm excited at the overtures
of interest
that lie
like possibilities
between us

A man I work with
in a busy civil service
splashes perfume
across my wrists
musk oil
from a little shop
in Lakemba
He's muslim
Verboten!
off limits to me
the immodest infidel
Irreligious me
It's erotic
it's a blessing of some sort
and it's all very sexy to me
we make each others work-a-day
pass faster
down here in the service.

Too busy
too rushed
timepoor people
shoving and jostling
&
pushing and fighting
their way through the day
and onto the train

Terra Nulius
Empty Country
To this day
the frontier stories
hide the horrors of the truth
empty country
= persona non grata

In this city
people wear
their clothes too tight
their smiles too tight
and
worse
the
thoughts
are
tighter.
Hemmed in
pressed too tight
overcowded
overstretched
pretending
glamour and success
I can no longer breathe

And there you have it; a little bit arty, a little bit farty and a whole lotta fun.

And to take us home here's a clip

from the grand ole lady of Greenwich Village, back in the day,

the lovely Melanie Safkas

with one of my alltime faves,

her song from 1968 - beautiful people-just perfect for a bong full of contemplation

(in mpua parlance that's the cone of silence) : )

You can find Melanie singing beautiful people by clicking on her name.
